Okay, this is mostly about the order of operations: the BIDMAS/BODMAS rule Firstly do the stuff in the brackets. And more importantly the stuff in the inner brackets first. so the first operation you do is (-4)^2 which equals: (-4) x (-4) = 16 so that it becomes: 12/3 x (-8 + 16 -6) + 2

Once again do the stuff in the brackets first, so you get (-8 + 16 -6) = (-8 +10) = 2

so now your expression is as follows: -12/3 x (2) +2, according to the BIDMAS/BODMAS rule, next you need to multipication, i.e -12/3 x 2 = -24/3

And finally, -24/3 = -8 , so you have -8 +2 = -6
