Question: I already know this:the mean is the average, so, naturally if there is an outlier it will be big, however, the median being something that works towards the center value is much more accurate and less conducive to outliners.
@Loser66
I don't know.
@Nnesha
@campbell_st
when outliers occur, the median is the best measure of the centre of the data. An outlier can have an undue influence when calculating the mean consider a data set 1, 2, 3, 100 the mean is 26.25 with the outlier then mean is 2 without the outlier then median is 2.5 with the outlier. which given the best estimate of the centre.... with an outlier median or mean?
@zepdrix
@is3535
@hartnn I really just need you to explain this to me
you want me to explain what you've written in question? median is less conducive to outliners
I just dont understand what they represent
see campbell's example a data set 1, 2, 3, 100 in this 100 is an outlier
the mean is 26.25 with the outlier then mean is 2 without the outlier which means the mean drastically changes with an outlier
median is 2 without the outlier median is 2.5 with the outlier means the median does not change that much with an outlier
Im sorry, but that the wrong question so maybe thats why were confused! Here is the right one:
should i make a new open question
you intend to ask a 5 number summary question?? if so, yes, you can open new Q
