why is it 1.8 instead of 1.7 ??? Why don't you add 0.5 to 1.2??? Why do you multiply 1.5 to 1.2?

OpenStudy (mathmate):

1.5 means one and a half, so one and a half of 1.2 is 1.2*(1.5) or 1.2+0.6=1.8. The mean is 6.3 lb. So withing (plus or minus) 1.5 standard deviations is 6.3\(\pm\) 1.8, or all weights between 4.5 and 8.1lbs.
