Physics 11 Question! A 12.0 kg fish hangs from a hook and line that has a tension of 85N on it. Draw a FBD and find the acceleration of the fish.

OpenStudy (korosh23):

I know how to find the acceleration by the formula F=ma. However, I do not understand if the tension force is downward or upward? Also, is there any Normal force?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You have to draw these out. Tension is in the direction of the line, away from the body. The line holds the fish up, so tension is up. There's no normal normal force because there's no surface. |dw:1442089808433:dw|
