I got the idea for the subject of a paper from a group forum online. How do I cite their contributions (or even, do I cite their contribution?) even if I'm not directly quoting anything said from the group at large? Class requires APA format. I know personal interviews and email are not suitable for references but only inline citation.

When you use the idea of some published material, you need to give due credit to the source, even though you do not copy/paraphrase the idea. Here's a link that discusses when we do NOT have to provide citations/credits. You can then make a decision according to your own situation. http://www.swarthmore.edu/writing/paraphrasing-citation
