Describe the five pillars of Islam.

Muslims believe in only one God, Allah. Muslims must pray five times a day, at certain times of the day, always facing the holy city of Mecca. Followers of Islam must give money or other goods to the poor and needy. Muslims must fast from sunup to sundown during the month of Ramadan – the ninth month of the Muslim lunar calendar. Finally, Muslims must make a pilgrimage to Mecca at least once during their lifetime (called the Haj).
