What is 965000 written in scientific notation?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

heres your answer9.65 x 104

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

not quite the right answer

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

put your decimal right after the first number...9.65000...then count how many places follow the decimal...there are 5.....so your answer would be 9.65 x 10^5

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

leave the zeros out....9.65 x 10^5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Kk thank you so much @texaschic101

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

sure thing....I can do positive ones...but when it comes to " turn 0.000065 into scientific notation.....thats where I get into trouble...lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

How would I write 7150 in scientific notation ? I'm a little confused on how to do it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Follow the steps again.. put your decimal after the first number which is 7

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Kk I did that and I got 7.15 x 10^3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yup, great job! :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Lol how about 0.069?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay so I think it would be like this 6.9*10^-2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Kk but why is the 2 negative ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Because the zeros are in front of the 6.. the zeros aren't in the end

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Kk thanks :) 😁 the next one says to convert 21 to scientific notation would be .21 *10^2?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

2.1 10^2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thanks @hype.child :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

u welcome

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@proud_yemeniah_ can you help with writing numbers in standard notation ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Sure

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Kk what is 5.6 *10^-2 written in standard form?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

do you have any choices?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No

OpenStudy (anonymous):

0.52

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Lol I hate dealing with negative numbers.. I really don't know this one is there another question I can try to help you with

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it 0.52 or 0.052

OpenStudy (anonymous):

its 0.052

OpenStudy (anonymous):

0.052 or 0.056? @hype.child

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think it's 0.056

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i meant 0.056

OpenStudy (anonymous):

myb

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yeah your right thanks 😊

OpenStudy (anonymous):

u welcome

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Um how about 9.8 * 10^-2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

0.098

OpenStudy (anonymous):

And to get that you moved the decimal places 2 places back ?

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

so if it is a negative exponent, or if your number is less then 0, you count your spaces to the left....and if it a positive exponent,or if your number is more then 0, then you count your spaces to the right.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Kk I got :) thanks for that explanation :) @texaachic101

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

I still get confused with the negative exponent ones...lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yeah it's kinda complicated

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@proud_yemeniah_ can you help me with changing 9.7×10^0 to standard notation ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

9.7 I think @Halia

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yeah I think so too because the exponent is 0

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@proud_yemeniah_ can you help me with 9.1×10^5?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think 910,000

OpenStudy (anonymous):

KK thanks here's the last one 8×10^1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

80

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Alrighty THANK YOU SO OOOOO MUCH !!!!! for helping me with my homework :) @proud_yemeniah_
