You would factorize the area and see if x is one of the factors. For example, if the area is 35 and width is 5, then 1. factorize 35=7*5 2. Since the width is 5, so the length must be 7 so that 5*7=35=area. The idea is the same in algebra. All the unknowns are just numbers in disguise.
