Their conversation reveals that Sergei is very lonely, and tat the goldfish is his last friend, therefor Sergei does not want to make his last wish and set the goldfish free. The goldfish also reveals that Sergei is a very nice and considerate man, and he knows he will use his last wish to help the child.
