D. Thought that large groups of people meeting together to make decisions would ignore the rights and opinions of the minority.

" Although our founders were aware of the Athenian model and agreed with the idea of government based on the consent of the governed, many feared that a pure, direct democracy would deteriorate into mob rule. They believed that large groups of people meeting together would ignore the rights and opinions of people in the minority, and would lead to decisions being made without careful thought. For this reason, they thought that a representative democracy would enable public decisions to be made in a more calmer and more fair manner . "
