Find the distance between points M(6, 16) and Z(-1, 14) to the nearest tenth. I have found two different answers. 5.4 and 7.3 Which is correct?
Work for 5.4 outcome - C = the square root of (6 – (-1))^2 + (16 – 14)^2 Simplify C = the square root of (5)^2 + (2)^2 Simplify C = the square root of 25 + 4 Simplify C = the square root of 29 The square root of 29 is about 5.4 The distance between points M and Z = 5.4
Work for 7.3 outcome - C = the square root of (-1 – 6)^2 + (14 – 16)^2 Simplify C = the square root of (-7)^2 + (-2)^2 Simplify C = the square root of 49 + 4 C = the square root of 53 The square root of 53 is about 7.3 The distance between points M and Z = 7.3
@triciaal
(x^1-x^2)/2 and (y^1-y^2)/2 for the first one, so itll be 6+1/2 and 16-14/2
7/2 and 2 should be what you get from that
So about 5.4 is correct?
then add the two numbers up to get the distance between point M and point Z
Oh. I messed up a step.
so itll be 3.4+2= your distance
C = the square root of (6 – (-1))^2 + (16 – 14)^2 Simplify C = the square root of (7)^2 + (2)^2 Simplify C = the square root of 49 + 4 Simplify C = the square root of 53 The square root of 53 is about 7.3 The distance between points M and Z = 7.3
i was never taught to do those steps to find the distance between two points i showed you what i was taught how to do it
Oh okay. That's fine. But the outcome is 7.3. Right?
i said youll add 3.4 and 2
3.5*
Oh okay. Sorry. Thanks so much!
