I am trying to put together a denaturation experiment. I can find some to try on YouTube, the Coke and milk, pineapple and jelly, and so on. However these do not explain what is causing the denaturation they just show the effect. Any ideas on where too find a good one to try that will help me understand what is going on?
A denaturation example would be boiled egg's. While cooking the egg the protein in the egg gain energy and shake the bonds between the amino-acid strings apart, therefore causing the proteins in the egg to unfold. The increase in temperature would than form new covalent bonds with other protein molecules. So all in all when you boil the egg the heat will initially unfold the protein, allowing the protein to form bonds with other proteins forcing the liquid that was inside of the egg out. This is why the egg hardens when it is cooked.
