OpenStudy (anguyennn):

Hello I need help with a quadratic formula

OpenStudy (anguyennn):

OpenStudy (anguyennn):

It asks what the smaller root is and what the larger root is! And I am not sure what it means by that.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Start by simplifying under the radical. Once you do, the two solutions come from the ± sign. Add to get one and subtract for the other

OpenStudy (anguyennn):

yes but....

myininaya (myininaya):

have you approximated both values yet?

myininaya (myininaya):

\[x=\frac{-(-5) + \sqrt{(-5)^2-4(-2)(-2)}}{2(-2)} \approx ? \\ x=\frac{-(-5)- \sqrt{(-5)^2-4(-2)(-2)}}{2(-2)} \approx ?\]

OpenStudy (anguyennn):

wait hold on lemme do it ok

myininaya (myininaya):

actually these both come out very nicely no need for approximations

OpenStudy (anguyennn):

I dont understand what it asks by the smaller and larger root

myininaya (myininaya):

well can you tell me what you got from the above computations ?

OpenStudy (anguyennn):

I got -2 for one of them

OpenStudy (anguyennn):

and for the other i got -0.5

myininaya (myininaya):

ok so you don't know which is larger of the two?

OpenStudy (anguyennn):

-0.5

myininaya (myininaya):

right and the smaller one is -2

OpenStudy (anguyennn):

ohhh thats it?

myininaya (myininaya):

yep

OpenStudy (anguyennn):

wow thank you!!!!

OpenStudy (anguyennn):

gave you a metal :)

myininaya (myininaya):

thank you

OpenStudy (anguyennn):

see ya!

myininaya (myininaya):
