jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
have you learned the quadratic formula?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
Yes, I've gotten every other question correct, it's just this one question that i'm getting wrong.
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
ok use the quadratic formula to find the solutions to 12x^2 - 31x + 7 = 0
tell me what those roots are

this will help you so much its a trick where you can solve any trinomial
OpenStudy (anonymous):
basically you times the first term by last term which in ur case is 12 and 7
OpenStudy (anonymous):
\[12 \times 7 = 84\]
OpenStudy (anonymous):
now you need to find two factors of 84 which if multiply gives you 84 and when add gives you -31
OpenStudy (anonymous):
so if you \[28 \times 3 = 84\]

now in order to get -31 these two number should be -28 and -3
OpenStudy (anonymous):
\[(-28) + (-3)\]
OpenStudy (anonymous):
now you equation will be \[12x ^{2} -3x -28x +7\]
OpenStudy (anonymous):
now only thing you have to do is factor it , can u plz do that if u have trouble i ll help u
