The martian with tentacles like 'wet leather.' - everyone runs away because of its looks. 

Fat/free will - man falling into the crater.

The overriding theme evident in Chapter 4 'The Cylinder Opens,' is the notion of a foreign entity or the unknown, which serves to threaten those unlike it. 

Pretty bad topic sentence. I'm sure you can do better but its something to think about.
