How did you come up with 48?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wait i'm wrong hold on I got confused here sry :(

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

there is a few ways to do this.... -8(a + 6) = -96 --- distribute through the parenthesis -8a - 48 = -96 -8a = -96 + 48 -8a = - 48 a = -48/-8 a = 6 OR -8(a + 6) = -96 --- divide both sides by -8 a + 6 = -96/-8 a + 6 = 12 a = 12 - 6 a = 6
