The term "retentivity" is a term to describe the ability to retain magnetism in iron. Use the Google search engine and I believe you can get a fairly good understanding of the terms. I am not sure, but I would guess you are presently studying magnetic effect in cores of transformers, inductors etc. Good luck with your studies.
