Could someone explain to me how to find the variable (x) in this problem? x+12-20=14+8

Well first you add 14 + 8 Then you just isolate x by moving all the values from one side to another by canceling them out.|dw:1442438187266:dw|

And then subtract 20 on both sides as well.
