Give an explicit formula for each sequence . write the first terms of each sequence 1) an=6n-3. 2)an=n2-

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What type of sequence is it? Arithmetic or geometric?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Arithmetic sequences

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay. So there are two methods to arithmetic sequences. The explicit and recursive but we'll be focusing on explicit since that's what they want. Do you know the formula for it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think I wouldn't be sure is an-a+(n-1)d

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Pretty much. \[a _{n} = a _{1} + (n-1)d\] Where a1 is the 1st term. n = position of term d = common difference an = desired term of sequence

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Is this the only information they gave you?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Hey @steve816 do you think you can help her? I have to go and I don't want the question to remain half-way answered, lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes that's all they gave me .
