Political - The U.S was torn in half. It took about a decade to reunite the country. Social - Even to this very day feuds between Americans from the North and South can be traced back to the Civil War and the issue of "states rights" Vs. "federal rights". Economical - Due to major events of the war ("Sherman's March" where Union General Sherman burned pretty much half of the south) the South's economy tanked leaving the country to attempt to reunite the whole thing while surviving on the Northern economy.
