It depends on whether the = sign is supposed to be a + or -. y = x + b translates the parent function vertically by b units. (up for positive b, down for - b). Also, b is the y-intercept. Parent function: y = x|dw:1442497979923:dw|
If your function is y = x - 5, the parent function has been translated down by 5 units |dw:1442498036069:dw|
If your function was y = x + 5, the parent function has been translated up by 5 units|dw:1442498092828:dw|
