Hey guyss! I'm new to open study. But if someone can help me with my question then I promise to give them a medal! Using what you know about word parts, which of the following words mean belief? A. Sophism B. Philosophy C. Sophist D. Philosophical

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Philosophy.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The others are disqualified by their suffixes.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The suffix 'ism' means a belief system, 'ist' means follower of a belief system, and 'al' makes it an adjective not a noun.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thank you so much! May I please have help with one more?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Also how do I give you a medal?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@FitzIncorporated

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Not a clue about the medal thing, but sure I'll help.

The use of phrases, fragments, and punctuation can affect the pace and mood of a text. How would you describe the pace of the following passage? "For the most wild, yet most homely narrative which I am about to pen, I neither except nor solicit belief. Mad indeed would I be to expect it, in a case where my very senses reject their own evidence." A. Fast B. Slow C. Both fast and slow D. Average

Thanks! I'd say that's quite fast. The clauses are short, there's no extending punctuation (like semicolons or ellipses, which make a sentence sound longer) and there's a lot of words the same length, which gives it a sort of rythm.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It's quite subjective, this one. I'd be surprised if there weren't some leeway in the grading.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The answer to the first question was NOT philosophy to any future people wondering.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Jeez, sorry :I
