Solve the following system of equations. -1.6x+0.2y=6.8 0.5x+1.2y=9.7

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh you will want to solve one equation for one variable and then plug that into the second equation to get the solution. x=-3.07921 and y=9.36634

i dont get it

You have the 2 equations, and then you isolate x in the first, and insert the value in the 2nd equation. Now you have 1 equation with 1 variable, then you isolate y in that equation. Now you have the answer for y, and you can insert that in one of the equations and isolate x. If you do that, then you should get \[x=311/101\] and \[y=946/101\] The 2 functions look like this: (the place they cross is also the answer)

Which is the same answer as jeweaver145 got :)
