Well J.J. Thompson discovered the electron I believe, while bohr proposed a model that said that electrons orbit around the nucleus in the same way planets orbit the sun.

Dalton made contributions to atomic theory and the law of constant proportions that in chemical reactions, atoms interact in I believe fixed amounts. Empedocles was I guess the first person to actually talk about an element, but he mentioned things like fire, air, etc. @clamin
