This is a brief answer that should enlighten you. The enlightenment was beginning of facts and reasoning. Before the enlightenment people would based their facts on the bible, personal believes, or divine experience. This led to no progress. People did not bother to challenge whatever answer they were given. Whereas the enlightenment this led to people to question why diseases occur, or how a country should rule. Medical advancement were made significantly, because people stop relating disease as curses from divine entity and began investigating.
Government also changed because most rulers were monarchs or emperors, that believe they were chosen by a divine entity. Also people that were born into poverty were not allowed to progress. The lower class questioned the quality of their life, and they believe they deserve a better life. This led to rebellions, riots, and downfalls of many monarchs. Democracy was eventually created by the common people that believe that a country can be govern by the common man, and through divine messages, or the upper class.
