OpenStudy (kj4uts):

The table below shows the consumer price index (CPI) every two years from 1980 through 1998...

OpenStudy (kj4uts):

OpenStudy (kj4uts):

I got y=4.467x-8760.425

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I got y = 4.467x + 84.775 I think you might have used the wrong x-values. Did you use the years, or 0, 2, 4, ... Are you doing this by hand?

OpenStudy (kj4uts):

oh i used years that might have been the problem, I am using a ti-84 and I did get y = 4.467x + 84.775 but I put y=4.467x-8760.425 because I used the years.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok yeah that's what it was

OpenStudy (kj4uts):

I am just wondering why do you have to use 0, 2, 4, etc. instead of the years?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

for ease basically. The data only starts from 1980, if you're resetting that as "year 0". Keeping the years makes the data look smaller

OpenStudy (kj4uts):

Thank you, I have another problem, would you mind looking at it, I can will open another question, I have answers to it but im not sure if there right.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah no problem

OpenStudy (kj4uts):

Ok I see it now that makes more sense.
