Help! How would I solve this? Sound travels in x seconds and the distance d, in miles, can be modeled by the equation d=0.3x, how many seconds would it take to hear an airplane that is 5 miles away?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1.5 seconds

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It's a multiple choice question, but I don't see 1.5 for an answer?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

d = 0.3x where d is distance and x is time. Would you substitute the 5 for the d or x?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The x?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

d represents distance and 5 miles is a distance, not a time. 5 = 0.3x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Now divide both sides by 0.3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Would it be 16.67?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

Awesome! Thank you.
