Chris ran 4 miles more than Miguel ran, the sum of their distances is 18 miles. How far did Miguel run? The domain of the solution is {04,7,14} 1.Define your variable. 2.Write and algebraic expression for how many miles Chris ran. 3.Write an equation to help you find the number of Miles Miguel ran.

OpenStudy (mdilley):

I got C+4=18 for number 2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (mdilley):

so what about number 2 and 3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

4-18=howmanymilesmigualran 14

OpenStudy (mdilley):

ah okay so variables? would that be C for Chris and M for Miguel or no?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@welshfella

No those answers are incorrect 1 Variable = x . That is the number of miles that Mgiuel ran 2. number of miles Chris ran is x + 4 3 x + (x + 4) = 18 2x + 4 = 18 x = 14/2 = 7 Miguel ran 7 miles

OpenStudy (is3535):

1 Variable = x . That is the number of miles that Mgiuel ran 2. number of miles Chris ran is x + 4 3 x + (x + 4) = 18 2x + 4 = 18 x = 14/2 = 7

OpenStudy (welshfella):

* 3. that equation is x + (x + 4) = 18

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no i checked my math my answers right

OpenStudy (welshfella):

14 miles for miguel cannot be correct That would mean that Chris ran 14 + 4 = 18 miles which is the total of what they both ran. Its 7 for miguel and 11 for Chris

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh sorry i was confused so sorry :(

OpenStudy (welshfella):

no probs
