The first part of the extract delivers quite a frantic and chaotic feel as it describes someone clinging to a barrel to not drown.

Whereas the last part is wistful and sad as he reflects on the elves elves still singing in the cellar in contrast to him being all alone in 'icy water.'

Honestly I'm inclined say B.
