Alright. You chose two things that are about the same in many ways, but are also quite different. That's very good. The first thing with this essay is to find out what are the comparisons between rivers and streams. For example, if I was writing about cats and dogs, what could I compare? Cat/Dog Similarities; Both animals Both have four legs Both have fur Both can be domesticated Both can be pets After I jot down my comparisons, then I put the contrasts. Cats; Meow Independent Use a litter tray Dogs; Bark Dependant on humans Go outside to do their business This is just an example. You should actually put meaningful contrasts, not just obvious ones, and sometimes, this can require a lot of research. Besides meaningful contrasts/comparisons, you should sprinkle in little fun facts so the reader will not get bored. For outlining, let me quote roanestate.edu with two primary outlines for a compare/contrast essay. roanestate.edu's two prime outlines are ... "Jane is distinct because… Jane is similar to Alice in these ways Alice is distinct because…" or "Differences and Similarities in Jane and Alice’s appearances Differences and Similarities in Jane and Alice’s backgrounds Differences and Similarities in Jane and Alice’s interests". Basically, in Outline #1, (which I recommend), you can say it like: Rivers are distinct because… Rivers are similar to streams in these ways Streams are distinct because… I hope this helped! P/S - you should read this if you need more help: http://www.roanestate.edu/owl/com_con.html and here is a sample compare/contrast essay: http://www.roanestate.edu/owl/Mac.html

Also in the end for that X factor you can write"both are water sources but river which is on a right path since beginning reaches its destination i.e, sea earlier than the stream which starts wrong but on the milestone at the midway it imerges with the river and starts following the right path and finally merges into the deep blue see"
