What provocative statement is Oscar Wilde making? People obsessed with youth and beauty are shallow There are more important things than youth and beauty We should try to maintain youth and beauty above all else Youth and beauty can be powerful

The Picture of Dorian Gray, by Oscar Wilde, is a work of fiction, which means it is made up. Though there are a lot of details in this book, the characters and events are not real This story tells about a character named Dorian Gray, who is an attractive young man. One day, Dorian’s friend asks to paint Dorian’s portrait. He does a great job, and the picture really captures Dorian’s beauty. In fact, it really captures Dorian’s beauty. Soon, Dorian finds that his portrait will age and lose its attractiveness, while Dorian himself will remain forever young and good-looking. Realizing he cannot age, Dorian goes out into the world to do whatever he wants — and he wants to do terrible things. He lives a life of evil, treating people badly and causing misery everywhere he goes. Because he is so beautiful, people welcome him into their lives, and he destroys them. With every bad thing Dorian does, his portrait gets a little uglier. Soon Dorian is still a beautiful young man, but his picture shows someone hideous and twisted. His bad deeds show on the horrifying face of his portrait.
