Which of the following is an example of an open-ended question? “Did you think my paper was funny?” “Do you think I’m a good writer?” “Did you understand the topic of my paper?” “What are the weaknesses of my paper?”
The difference between an open-ended question and a close-ended question is that a close-ended question requires only a "yes" or "no" answer. For example... "Is my cat cute?" asked Janice. "Yes," repled Aimie. That was an example of a close-ended question. Aimie could reply with either "yes" or "no". But an open-ended question requires a lengthier answer. You do not reply to an open-ended question with just "yes" or "no". For example... "What are your plans for after college?" asked Macson. "I plan to get married and have a family," replied Darby. In this example of an open-ended question, Darby couldn't just say "yes" or "no", since that wouldn't answer Macson's question. So, in order to solve this question of yours, ask yourself what you would say if someone asked you those questions. Here's a hint: I ask you, “Do you think I’m a good writer?” What would you say?
