Trigonometry 22 Online

At the farmer's market, there is a scale that measures the weight of fruit and vegetables. The needle is 16 cm long, and it rotated 68° when Danielle placed six oranges on it. How far did the needle travel as it rotated? How would I do this one?

OpenStudy (drummergirl3):

he needle is the radius of a circle. The distance it rotates is a portion of the circumference. Since there are 360° in a circle, multiply this by 68/360. The answer is then found as 16*2π*(68/360). That comes out somewhere below 20cm. Do it yourself in Excel to get the real answer. Doesn't that give you 18.98918226 (which is really 19cm)?

So multiply the radius by 68/360?

OpenStudy (drummergirl3):

exactly

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you :D Thats all i needed

OpenStudy (drummergirl3):

No Problem ;)
