The Order of operations from the through PEDMAS, which means: P - Parentheses first E - Exponents (ie Powers and Square Roots, etc.) MD - Multiplication and Division AS - Addition and Subtraction Speakers of British English often instead use "BODMAS", which stands for "Brackets, Orders, Division and Multiplication, and Addition and Subtraction". Since "brackets" are the same as parentheses and "orders" are the same as exponents, the two acronyms mean the same thing.
