the speed of a stream is 3mph. A boat travels 5 miles upstream in the same time it takes to travel 11 miles downstream, what is the speed of the boat in still water?

hero (hero):

@jennamostdope you still here?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes!

hero (hero):

How far did you get with trying to solve this?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

not far at all. im not sure what formula to use, if i knew the formula i could probably figure it out!

hero (hero):

d=rt but it's more complicated than just using a formula.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i thought it was the distance formula! but i still dont understand at all....

hero (hero):

d=rt IS the distance formula .

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i know that lol im saying thats what i thought i had to use but i was confused becaus there isnt a time or distance, just a few different rates...

hero (hero):

says, the boat traveled 5 miles upstream and 11 miles downstream . Sounds like distances to me. What do you think ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes but how would i set it up?
