-(7y+6)(5y+4) multiply and simplify will medal

OpenStudy (mrnood):

use the same as you were just shown hint - be careful about the - sign outside first bracket....

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thats correct its on the outside of the bracket

Theoceangirl (the_ocean_girl):

i can walk you through it if you want

OpenStudy (anonymous):

please i hate these

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i have 3 i have to get right

OpenStudy (mrnood):

Yes I know I am asking YOU to use the same methodas oyu were just shown BUT be careful about the - sign

Theoceangirl (the_ocean_girl):

okay so first you need to distribute the negative that's outside the first set of parentheses

OpenStudy (mrnood):

I showed you the FOIL method so what do you get when you multiply the FIRST terms from the 2 brackets together?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

35y

OpenStudy (anonymous):

would it be 35y^2

OpenStudy (mrnood):

yes good now the 2 O utrer terms?

OpenStudy (mrnood):

"Outer"

OpenStudy (anonymous):

24

OpenStudy (mrnood):

Well - that is the two LAST terms - but its OK - we need that as well so the OUTER terms are 7y and 4 the inner terms are 6 and 5y so what do you get when you multiply THOSE pairs?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

27y 30y

OpenStudy (anonymous):

28y

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sorry stupid computer

OpenStudy (mrnood):

so the 2 brackets altogether are 35y^2 +27y + 30y + 24 we need to join the 2 terms with y in AND THEN REMEMBER THE - sign so first join the two y terms...

OpenStudy (mrnood):

yes - 28 y is better sorry I mssed that

OpenStudy (mrnood):

that is NOT a minus btw - just punctuation - sorry

OpenStudy (anonymous):

35y^2-57y+28

OpenStudy (mrnood):

it's 35y^2 +58 y + 28 OK but we also have the minus sign outside ALL so -(35y^2 +58 y + 28 ) so now distribute the minus inside the bracket and you will have th eanswer (AND you did it YOURSELF!) well done

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks just a little confusing to me

OpenStudy (mrnood):

you still need to do the minus into the bracket....

OpenStudy (anonymous):

was just saying thanks doing it now

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-35y^2-58y-28

OpenStudy (mrnood):

excellent - good job |dw:1443008538137:dw| remember FOIL you will get 4 terms, and you can always combine 2 of them...
