Find the area of the shaded region to the nearest tenth.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (calculusxy):

you need to find two things: area of the circle : \[\large A = \pi r^2\] area of square \[\large A= s^2\] s = side length

OpenStudy (calculusxy):

so once you find them, tell me what you get and we will proceed

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Area of square=64 ? im not so sure about the circle

OpenStudy (calculusxy):

\[\large A = \pi r^2\] r = radius (or half of the diameter, which in this case is 8) to find the radius you need to do 8 / 2 = ___ and then take the radius and put it into the equation.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

50.24?

OpenStudy (calculusxy):

okay that works.

OpenStudy (calculusxy):

now since the circle is inside of the square we need to subtract the area of the circle from the area of the square to find the area of the shaded space.
