OpenStudy (pokiedokie):

can a relation be a function if there is a repeating number in the x-column(domain)? (i'm just double-checking)

OpenStudy (pokiedokie):

the repeating number in my x-column is -1.5 and I'm unsure if it can be a function

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

a function occurs when there's NO X-REPEATS if there arer no x-repeast, then it's a function otherwise, it's just a relation:) rather

OpenStudy (amistre64):

depends on the y value it is associated with.

OpenStudy (pokiedokie):

so it isn't a function? or is it because in the y-column there are repeats as well but i thought it didn't matter on the y-column

OpenStudy (amistre64):

a function is defined so that each x value is associated with only one y value. if x=3, when y=7 .... then everytime x=3, it better have a y=7 associated with it.

OpenStudy (amistre64):

if you have 2 or more values for y, when x=3 ... then its not going to be a function.

OpenStudy (pokiedokie):

ohh okay that makes much more sense, thank you so much!!

OpenStudy (amistre64):

good luck

OpenStudy (pokiedokie):

just double-checking. if x=-1.5 and y=-3.5 and for the other x=-1.5 and y=1.5 then it is definitely NOT a function, correct?
