OpenStudy (caozeyuan):

Summarize how each of the techniques below will allow you to identify an unknown compound by mentioning the information obtained from each technique. 1 solubility determination 2 MP determination 3 TLC 4 Recrystalization

OpenStudy (caozeyuan):

I am not sure about the recrystallization technique since it was not studied in my lecture.

OpenStudy (thadyoung):

Its basically used to purify a compound on the basis of solubility. for instance you have some compound you extracted from some place or whatver, you first dissolve it in a solvent, the solution is filtered to remove the insoluble impurities, and the solvent is then evaporated to produce the solid compound and get a more "pure" organic compound. I think this is works for only organic compounds, but I'm actually not sure if it works for inorganics like organometallics species of the like.

OpenStudy (thadyoung):

After you obtain the more pure species, you can subject it to a series of tests to identify what you have, for instance, boiling point, melting point, NMR, IR, proton NMR, etc.,
