What are the roots of the equation 5x2 - 5x - 30 = 0?
A. x = -3/5 or 10 B. x = 3/5 or -10 C. x = 2 or 3 D. -2 or 3
The first step is to take out the common factor 5, giving: \[\large x^{2}-x-6=0\]
Can you factorize that?
5(x^2 - x - 6) = 0 Right?

Not really. Now divide both sides by 5, to get the quadratic that i posted.
I don't understand. Why do I have to divide both sides by 5?
To make the original quadratic much simpler to factorize. \[\large x^{2}-x-6=(x+?)(x-?)\]
(x + 2)(x - 3) ?
Correct. Now can you see the roots?
