Hope you don't mind me cutting in, but I loved this story when I first read it, so I kinda have it memorized? Yeah. Anyways... You are correct. When he takes the milk is the climax. (I have a hard time of describing things so bare with me) In a way, he knows in that moments that he has nothing to call his own. No food. No money. Nothing. That's why he essentially breaks down, because he knows he has nothing to repay the woman's kindness.
