What are two events that caused Americans to become disillusioned with the Federal government during the first half of the '70s?

There are several reasons as to why there was severe disillusionment during the 70's. Both the Cold War and Vietnam war did much to damage a majority of Americans' faith in both the government and leaders. They were also underseige by an economic decline and lowering standards of living.
