What is 1/3(x-6)>3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1/3(x-6) > 3 multiply both sides by 3(x-6) 1 * 3(x-6) / 3 (x-6) > 3*3(x-6) after cancelling out 3(x-6) 1 > 9x - 54 now we add 54 to both sides 54 + 1 > 9x - 54 + 54 again cancelling out 55 > 9x now dividing both sides by 9 x < 55 / 9 (I cancelled out the 9 on Left hand side) basically all you have to do is bring the given variable at a side and numbers on opposite side. also remember if you have to change the sign on variable side, i.e negative to positive, you do the same but the greater than sign changes. for example '>' to '<'
