A 5.0 microfarad parallel plate capacitor has a charge of +49.0 microfarad and -55.0 microfarad on each plate, respectively. What is the potential energy stored in this capacitor?

OpenStudy (4n1m0s1ty):

@Arzola99 did you mean 55 microvolts instead of 55 microfarad?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Micro coulombs, sorry

OpenStudy (4n1m0s1ty):

Ah. Question makes much more sense now lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Lol, I am sorry

OpenStudy (4n1m0s1ty):

You need to use the c = q/v relation to find v. Then use the capacitor potential energy equation

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Do I use that equation for each charge and add them?

OpenStudy (4n1m0s1ty):

I believe the q in the equation refers to the total charge so yes you would add them

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok, I will try that. Thank you!
