OpenStudy (annie96):

The graph of f(x) is obtained by translating the graph of g(x)=|x| 5 units down. Which equation is the equation of the graph of f(x)? A. f(x)=|x|-5<--(is my Answer right? B.f(x)=|x|-1 C.f(x)=|x|+5 D. f(x)=|x+5|

OpenStudy (danjs):

Go here and graph y = a*abs(x-b)+c add sliders for a,b, and c play with them

OpenStudy (danjs):

https://www.desmos.com/calculator

OpenStudy (danjs):

your initial function has a=1 , b=0, c=0 change those and see how each term affects the graph

OpenStudy (danjs):

a -- squishes the thing b-- side to side (careful with the sin, the formula is (x - b) so a +b goes LEFT c -- up and down

OpenStudy (annie96):

@DanJS would it be c?

OpenStudy (triciaal):

yes your original answer is right

OpenStudy (annie96):

thank you

OpenStudy (triciaal):

you are welcome
