jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

step 1) find the value of y hint: 105+y = 180 step 2) use y to find x hint: x+y+24 = 180

OpenStudy (anonymous):

uhh there's no y inside the star only an x!

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

105 and y are supplementary because they form a straight angle. Which is why 105+y = 180

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

I added y in

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

x+y+24 = 180 because all 3 angles of any triangle always add to 180 degrees

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh okay, so y= 75 right?

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

yep

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so now its x+75+24=180 so x would equal 81?

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

good

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

an alternative is to use the exterior angle theorem http://www.mathopenref.com/triangleextangletheorem.html 24 and x are interior angles. They add to 105 which is the exterior angle that isn't touching the interior angles 24+x = 105 solve that for x and you get x = 81

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So is that it? if it is, thank you so much that was a lot easier than I thought XD

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

yeah 81 is your answer. There are 2 ways to get there
