Christa buys 14 flowerpots. Some are small and cost $2.40 each. The rest are large and cost $5.60 each. She spends a total of $49.60. Which equation models this situation? Let s represent the number of small flowerpots she buys. A. 5.6s + 2.4(s + 14) = 49.6 B. (2.4 + 9.6)(14 – s) = 49.6 C. 2.4s + 5.6(14 – s) = 49.6 D. 5.6s + 2.8(14) = 49.6

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if s represents the number of small flower pots, and she bought 14 pots total, what would you do to isolate the small ones? (does that make sense?)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

2.4s +5.6???? idk really

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you'd subtract s from 14

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so c basically

OpenStudy (anonymous):

correct

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thx so much i have 1 more if thats fine

OpenStudy (anonymous):

not a problem. ask away. i miss this kind of math

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Mira has $760 in her bank account and withdraws $40 each month. Paulina has $210 in her bank account and deposits $70 each month. In how many months will Mira and Paulina have equal amounts of money in their accounts? A. 5 B. 7 C. 8 D. 10

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay, so for order's sake, we are going to arrange this as such; 760 - 40x = 210 + 70x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

k got it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

there's a couple of methods to solving it. i simply plugged in the final answers as x and solved to find which one worked best. it's crude, but effective nonetheless

OpenStudy (anonymous):

start with answer A, 5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what is -40 times 5? (use a calculator)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i think the answer is 5 sry that i didnt answer you right away...i was figuring it out

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it's perfectly fine. and yes, the answer is 5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay thx i will mention u next time i need help ( u need more than 1 medal)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lol thanks. not too shabby for only having been here a total of 1 hour, if that
