Please help me! Which comes first in lexicographic order: "Tom" or "Tomato" "bat man" or "batman" "java" or "Java"

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Perhaps not a maths question?

OpenStudy (steve816):

Maybe not :p

OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):

is space i.e. ` ` , the zeroth letter on the alphabet?

OpenStudy (steve816):

I think so.

OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):

and i guess the word terminator is the -1th letter

OpenStudy (steve816):

what???

OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):

`bat` doesn't have a space in it, but i think it should still come before `bat man`, `batman` etc

OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):

I'm not sure about capitals

OpenStudy (steve816):

Okay thanks

OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):

hmm, now i'm thinking capital letter should have precedence, but only when all the other letter are the same. for example `Java`, `java`, `JavaScript`,

OpenStudy (steve816):

I think you're right

OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):

is `-1st`, better grammar than `-1th` ?

OpenStudy (steve816):

Yes lol

OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):

what about if i was referring to the `(n+1)th` / `(n+1)st` term?
