Two mechanics worked on a car. The first mechanic worked for 20 hours, and the second mechanic worked for 5 hours. Together they charged a total of $1725 . What was the rate charged per hour by each mechanic if the sum of the two rates was $120 per hour? Note that the ALEKS graphing calculator can be used to make computations easier

Let x be rate of charge for the first mechanic Let y be rate of charge for the second mechanic 20x+5y=1725 x+y=120 Know how to solve this system of equation?

could u help

With?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

solving it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

First make both of them cancel by multiplying the second equation by -20? So what would be your 2nd equation?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You would want your x to cancel out to solve for y.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok

Answer my question and I will proceed.

The reason is because this should not be new to you. This is harder example of a system of linear equation problem.
