-7.832198653 . . . is rational or irrational

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

is that all of the digits?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

that's all of the digits

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

if you can write down all of the digits, it is rational. a rational number is one that can be represented by a fraction \(p/q\) where \(q\ne 0\). Any finite string of digits is obviously a fraction. An infinite string of digits that repeats is also rational, such as \(1/3 = 0.3333333333...\) If it doesn't end and does not repeat, then it must be irrational.

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

Your number can be written as \[-7\frac{832198653}{1000000000}\]so it is rational
